A dilogarithmic formula for the Cheeger-Chern-Simons class

We introduce a new formula for computing the Cheeger-Chern-Simons class of a complete hyperbolic 3-manifold. A formula by Dupont computes the universal class using Rogers' dilogarithm, but his formula is only correct modulo Q. In a recent paper Neumann extends the work by Dupont and obtains a formula without this indeterminacy. However, Neumann's formula is difficult to apply and very slow for concrete applications. The new formula can be applied directly to a homology class in the bar complex.
