On the stability of viscous flows in curved channels

The existence of a large variety of patterns in the Taylor-Dean flow imposed theoretical, numerical and experimental investigations of this motion. An analytical and numerical study using spectral methods based on Legendre polynomials is presented here for a few such examples. In each case the critical Taylor number at which instability occurs is obtained, all numerical results are compared with those existing in the literature, proving to be similar.
