Higson compactifications and non-rapid ultrafilters
by
Masaru Kada
Osaka Prefecture University, Japan

Kada, Tomoyasu and Yoshinobu [Topology Appl. 145(2004), 277-292] proved that bw, the Stone-Cech compactification of w, is approximated by u-many Smirnov compactifications of w in a nontrivial way, where u is the smallest size of a base of a nonprincipal ultrafilter on w. It is still open whether the corresponding statement holds for Higson compactifications of w. In this talk we will prove that we can approximate bw by u(non-rapid)-many Higson compactifications of w, where u(non-rapid) is the smallest size of a base of a non-rapid ultrafilter on w.
