J.J. Charatonik and W.J. Charatonik posed the question of characterizing non-metric continua for which there exist a Whitney map for C(X). An example of a hereditarily indecomposable non-metric continuum that supports a Whitney map is constructed. This continuum is constructed using the lexicographic arc, inverse limits and pseudo-arcs. Using this construction and a result of G. Kozlowski we believe that it can be shown that there exist c many hereditarily indecomposable non-metric continua that will support a Whitney map.
