Semi-openness of induced maps
by
Javier Camargo
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Universidad Industrial de Santander.

Xianjiu, Fanping and Gengrong defined semi-open mappings in the follow way: Let X and Y be topological spaces. A mapping f:X→ Y is said to be semi-open provided that IntY(f(U)) ≠ ∅ for each nonempty open subset U in X.

They asked the following question:

Let f:X→ Y be a surjective mapping between continua X and Y. Suppose that C(f) is semi-open, then does it follow that f is open?

We provide the negative answer to the above question and present relationships between f, Cn(f) and HSn(f).
