Solenoid attractors of diffeomorphisms of 3-manifolds

We review some recent work by a group of Chinese mathematicians on "knotted" solenoids and a paper by Joel Gibbson from the 1970's on generalized solenoids as attractors in the 3-sphere. Finally there will be some preliminary remarks on extensions of these results.
