Involutions of groups with exotic large-scale behavior
by
Jean-François Lafont
Ohio State University
Coauthors: F.T. Farrell

I will discuss constructions of automorphisms of delta-hyperbolic groups G with the property that (1) the boundary at infinity of G is a sphere, and (2) the automorphism induces an involution of the sphere with exotic fixed set. Exotic here can mean bad intrinsic topology (infinitely generated Cech cohomology), or bad extrinsic topology (a totally wild knotted subsphere). This was joint work with Tom Farrell (Binghamton University).
