Symplectic S1 ×N and fibered 3-manifolds

We show that given a closed 3-manifold N the 4-manifold S1 ×N is symplectic if and only if N is fibered. We will prove this result by showing that twisted Alexander polynomials detect fibered 3-manifolds.
