TQFT and Fibered Ribbon Knots
by
Patrick Gilmer
Louisiana State University

We will discuss a TQFT obstruction to a surface automorphism extending over a handlebody. As an application, we will describe another proof of Miyazaki's 1990 result that the (2,1)-cable of the figure eight knot is not a ribbon knot. Both proofs make use of the result of Casson and Gordon that a fibered knot is homotopy ribbon if and only if its capped-off monodromy extends over a handlebody.
