In this paper the flight simulation of aeroelastic aircraft subjected to a windshear disturbance is presented. Flexible aircraft dynamics is formulated in terms of quasi-coordinates. The nonlinear governing equations incorporate both the aircraft rigid-body motions and elastic deformations and they include the aerodynamic, propulsion, gravity, and control forces. The wing of the aircraft is modeled as a flexible beam undergoing bending and torsion. In addition, a two dimensional windshear model is utilized. A Galerkin method is used to discretize distributed parameters and the resulting equations are then used to nonlinear simulation of the response of aircraft to atmospheric inputs. Compared with the rigid aircraft, the aeroelastic simulation shows that the interaction between rigid-body motion and elastic deformations of the wing causes significant changes in the aircraft response during microburst windshear encounters. Numerical simulations highlighting the effects of the aircraft structural flexibility on the windshear response are presented.
