Fundamental Groups of Locally Complicated Spaces
by

Coauthors: James W. Cannon, Jack Lamoreaux

We will discuss recent work which studies fundamental groups of spaces which are not locally simply connected. The results covered will include that a space which is locally path connected and is either planar or is a one-dimensional separable metric space has a countable fundamental group if and only if it has a universal cover if and only if it has a free fundamental group. We will also outline results for spaces which are not locally path connected.
