On the lattice of compatible relations on algebras

A framework for the study of lattices of compatible relations in algebras are presented. The framework applies on congruences, tolerances, quasi-orders and other similar types of relations. All those lattices are algebraic, with a particular role of the diagonal relation. Necessary and sufficient conditions under which these lattices satisfy some identities or laws are given (modularity, distributivity, complementedness, to be a Boolean, and so on). Some special properties of these lattices for particular classes of algebras are also given.
