We study hyperbolic groups with 1-dimensional boundary.
We show that the boundary of a torsion free hyperbolic group with 1-dimensional boundary is either a a Menger curve or a Sierpinski carpet, unless the group splits over a cyclic group. We then examine the Sierpinski carpet case in more detail.
