Language and topological concepts
by
Ivan Reilly

Coauthors: Bill Barton

Do those who work in research mathematics in different languages have different understandings of the fundamental concepts of their area of mathematics?

We have chosen General Topology as the area of mathematics to investigate, largely because of my many international contacts in that field. I wish to talk about this research project which is just in its trialling stage. Ideally, I hope to get some (especially Hungarian) toplogists to try out our pilot tasks, and provide some feedback on the methodology of our investigation.
