Geometric Integration
by
J. M. Sanz-Serna
Universidad de Valladolid
The talk is devoted to numerical methods for the solution of initial value problems in ordinary differential equations. I will briefly survey the main historical developments and present the paradigm that was universally accepted fifteen years ago. I will point out several deficiencies of that paradigm and I will discuss several new approaches. The new approaches share a common property: they all focus on the geometric aspects of the system being integrated.
