p-Adic Analytic Manifolds
by
Paul Gartside
National University of Ireland, Galway

This talk will be an introduction to p-adic analytic manifolds.

A p-adic analytic manifold is a space which is `modelled' on the p-adic numbers in the same way that a standard manifold is modelled on the real numbers, and so that the pieces of the manifold are `sewn together' using analytic maps.

From a purely topological point of view, a p-adic analytic manifold is a `Cantor-manifold' (every point has a neighbourhood homeomorphic to a Cantor set).

P-adic analytic manifolds arise in various parts of group theory and algebraic geometry. But our interest is in their topological nature.
