Modules over Hereditary Noetherian Prime Rings

Steinitz's 1911 structure theorem on finitely generated modules over Dedekind domains can be viewed as the ultimate extension of the fundamental theorem of abelian groups to modules over commutative noetherian domains. The purpose of this expository talk is to summarize the extent to which this theorem has been further extended to modules over noncommutative noetherian rings.
