A roadmap to dense rings of linear transformations
by
Julius Zelmanowitz
University of California at Santa Barbara
This will be a tour through a sequence of generalizations of classical Chevalley-Jacobson density theory with the objective of visiting ever larger, but still dense (in appropriate attenuated sense) classes of rings of linear transformations. The talk will follow a conceptual rather than a historical path in recognition of the fact that the development of this research area did not follow a simple linear path towards successive generalizations. Technical detail will be suppressed to the maximum feasible extent.
