L4 based estimates in harmonic analysis
by

California Institute of Technology
A well known classical fact in harmonic analysis is that if (and only if) p is an even integer there is a closed form expression for the Lp norm of a function in terms of its Fourier coefficients. I will try to explain the role of this device in current work on Lp estimates, including recent solutions of some toy problems related to the so-called restriction conjecture. Most of my talk will be quite expository.
