The Theory of Positive Bases Applied to Nonlinear Optimization
by
Ian Coope
University of Canterbury
Coauthors: Chris Price (University of Canterbury)

The theory of positive bases developed by C. Davis in 1954 does not appear in most standard texts in linear algebra and has only recently (1998) been used in optimization theory. In this talk some simple properties of this highly useful theory are introduced and applied to both theoretical and practical aspects of the design and implementation of algorithms for nonlinear optimization.
