Abhyankar's irreducibility criterion: a geometric point of view
by
Vincent Cossart
University of Versailles (France)

From the results of M. SPIVAKOVSKY about valuations of function fields in dimension 2, we deduce a Criterion of analytic irreducibility of plane curves valid in every characteristic and a new proof of ABHYANKAR's Criterion. The notion of graduate rings associated to divisorial valuations gives ``geometric'' interpretations of ABHYANKAR's computations.
