On Residuum Smoothing in ILUM-type preconditioning
by
Lutz Grosz

We consider multi-level preconditioning for iterative linear solvers, which bases on an ILUM-type factorisation of the coefficient matrix. This method is more robust than the classic ILU preconditioning and very suitable for parallel processing. In the talk we introduce a smoothing technique into the backward substitution in order to compensate dropping in the Schur complement assemblage.
