Aspherical Higman embeddings

This is a joint result with E. Rips. We prove that every finitely generated aspherical group is embeddable into a finitely presented aspherical group. This answers questions by Gromov and Pride. In particular, this result and a result by Gromov imply that there exists a finitely presented aspherical group not embeddable (uniformly) into a Hilbert space.
