On a Characterization of W-sets
by
Jonathan Hatch
University of Missouri at Rolla

In 1983, Van Nall introduced the notion of a W-set, which is a subcontinuum with respect to which each surjective map is weakly confluent. In 1987, Grispolakis and Tymchatyn gave a characterization of W-sets. We will present information on two types of W-sets as well as a new characterization of W-sets.
