A non-tree-like continuum that repels k-to-1 maps
by
Thomas Gonzalez
University of West Alabama

A nondegenerate continuum Y is said to repel k-to-1 maps if there is no k-to-1 map from any continuum onto Y where k >= 2. All previously known examples of continua that repel k-to-1 maps are tree-like. It will be shown that there exists a non-tree-like continuum that repels k-to-1 maps.
