ABSTRACT
We condider the application of the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) to elastostatics problems in two and three space dimensions ([1, 2]). In both cases, each of the displacements is approximated by a linear combination of the fundamental solutions of the Navier equations of elasticity. Sources are placed outside the domain of the problem under consideration. The final positions of the sources and the coefficients of the fundamental solutions are determined by enforcing the satisfaction of the boundary conditions in a least squares sense. The applicability of the method is demonstrated on several test problems.
