Mean dimension is an invariant of infinite dimensional dynamical systems that was suggested by Gromov. In the talk I will give some examples of systems where this invariant is meaningful, give some applications that begin to show a stronger analogy between the theory of mean dimension and ordinary dimension theory, and describe many questions that remain open in this direction.
