A new generalized measure of useful directed divergence based on 'm-1' probability distributions and a probability distribution closest to these is proposed. The technique has been applied in solving problems related to crop production, export and industries. Further, a generalized measure of useful information improvement has been developed and its application in assessments of balanced military requirement for a country, in ranking and pattern recognition have been discussed.
