Non-Parametric Estimation of a Frequency Distribution from Independent Double Sampling Data

Consider the following problem. You want to estimate the total size of a population as well as the frequency distribution of an attribute (such as age) across that population. However, you are only able to obtained biased samples from this population. Independent double sampling is a generalised design that includes mark recapture and line transect sampling. Under this design we develop methods for estimating the frequency distribution, and hence the population total, non-parametrically. The methods are applied to data on aboriginal populations in Canada.
