A three-manifold with non-trivial fundamental group which does not admit non-trivial group actions

In general it is difficult to determine if a specific three-manifold can be a non-trivial covering space. I will describe a class of non-contractible three-manifolds which cannot be non-trivial regular covering spaces. Specifically, it will be shown that if G is a group which acts properly discontinuously and fixed point freely on one of these manifolds, then G is the trivial group.
