IP version 6 (IPv6) is a new version of the Internet Protocol, designed as a successor to IP version 4 (IPv4). There are currently two types of routing protocol in the Internet. These are Interior Gateway Protocols (IGP) sometimes called Intra-Domain Routing Protocols and Exterior Gateway Protocols (EGP) sometimes called Inter-Domain Routing Protocols. The routing protocol described here is Routing Information Protocol (RIP) with minimum changes, necessary for operation over IPv6.
