We describe an algebraic framework for studying the symmetry properties of integrable quantum systems first on the line and then on the half line. For this second part, the approach is based on the introduction of boundary operators. We study in detail the NLS Hierarchy problem in which the Yangian plays an essential role when no boundary. Then boundary conditions preserving integrability are determined, and the boundary algebra examined.
