A General Form of Replicate Variance Estimators

The paper presents a general form of replicate variance estimators for single phase, single stage sampling, and produces an explicit form for the variance of the variance estimator for estimates of level. The general form covers the boot strap and balanced designs for simple random sampling and stratified samples but does not cover jack knife or stratified split k'ths. The results give rise to general forms of rescaling to correct bias in replicate estimates of total and variance, partially balanced replication techniques within stratum and across strata and replication techniques for stratified systematic samples
