W-sets in locally connected continua

A subcontinuum H of a continuum X is said to be a W-set provided for any surjective map f:Y --> X of a continuum Y onto X there is a component C of f-1(H) so that f(C)=H. It is shown that any W-set in a locally connected continuum is an arc.
