The Yang-Mills measure in the Kauffman Bracket Skein Algebra
by
Charles Frohman
The University of Iowa

The Kauffman Bracket skein algebra K(F) is a quantization of the SU(2)-characters of the fundamantal group of the surface F. The Yang-Mills measure is a trace on K(F) that quantizes the symplectic measure on the SU(2)-character variety. We discuss the combinatotial evaluation of the meausure, and its use in showing that a three manifold is not simply connected.
