The geometric dimension of a CAT(0) group may be different from the minimal dimension of a CAT(0) space on which the group acts geometrically by semi-simple isometries. We give some examples which illustrates this theme, and point out its implications for constructing CAT(0) spaces for for various classes of groups which one suspects to be CAT(0).
