Constructing Surface Knots
by
Tsukasa Yashiro
University of Auckland

An embedded surface in 4-space is called a surface knot. A projected surface knot in 3-space is called a surface diagram. Recently, geometric approaches to this area have been developed. In this talk we will introduce geometric invariants of surface knots and demonstrate a construction of classes of non-trivial 2-knot diagrams from the sphere in 3-space.
