New axioms and techniques in set-theoretic topology
by
Peter Nyikos
University of South Carolina

Many new tools in set theory have become available in the last half dozen years, including some axioms compatible with CH that are as easy to apply as MA or diamond. We survey a number of applications of these tools to topology, including a recent consistency result using large cardinals, answering a question of Arhangel'skii and Buzyakova: is every normal, locally compact, linearly Lindelof space Lindelof?
