Concerning Rings of Continuous Functions appeared in a 1954 issue of Transactions of the American Mathematical Society (v.77. p.340-362). In this paper, Leonard Gillman and Melvin Henriksen sought the answer to two distinct, though related, questions on the ring C(X,R) of continuous functions. The material concerning the first question, about P-spaces, has a rich history. That concerning the second question on Hewitt's Q-spaces, sparked sparse and lesser known, but intriguing, research over the next 40 years. We look at the original, and work of S. W. Williams (1971), M. J. Faber (1974), R. Engelking. and D. Lutzer, (1977), D. G. P. Palenz (1982), Z. Balogh and M. E. Rudin (1992).
