The equality of the reduced and the full C*-algebras and the amenability of a topological groupoid

C. Anatharaman-Delaroche and J. Renault have proved that the amenability of a toplogical locally compact groupoid implies the equality of the reduced and the full C*-algebras. In this paper we shall prove the converse assertion. We shall assume that G is a locally compact second countable groupoid for which the range and the domain maps are open. We shall also assume that the equivalence relation induced by G on the unit space is closed.
