Free-by-cyclic groups (aka mapping tori of free group automorphisms) offer a rich class of groups. They have ashperical presentations, are coherent and asynchrounously automatic, yet are not all CAT(0) or automatic.
We prove that all finitely generated free-by-cyclic groups have a quadratic isoperimetric inequality. This is similar to surface-by-cyclic groups, but in contrast to abelian-by-cyclic groups, two analagous classes of groups.
