Correct Inference for Imputed Data in Complex Surveys
by
James Reilly
University of Auckland / Statistical Insights Ltd

Multiple imputation was developed to enable appropriate inferences from imputed data, and is an increasingly popular approach for dealing with survey non-response.

However some problems with multiple imputation have been noted, for exanple by Fay (1991, 1996) and Robins and Wang (2000). The nature and extent of these problems will be discussed in the context of sample surveys, along with a range of possible solutions.
