Yield and composition trends in a Queensland pasture study
by
Christina Playford
Queensland Department of Primary Industries
Coauthors: David Orr (Queensland Department of Primary Industries)

A grazing experiment was established in Hetropogon contortus pasture in 1988 at 'Galloway Plains'. This experiment examined the effect of stocking rate, legume oversowing and dietary supplements on soil, pasture and animal productivity. In 1992 the supplement treatments were replaced by spring burning treatments. All treatments were replicated twice.

Yield and composition were determined annually in autumn between 1988 and 2001 from 150 quadrants per paddock using BOTONAL (Tothill et al. 1992).

The response of three pastures species (Hetropogon contortus, Bothriochloa bladii and Aristida species) over time to the treatments and the presence of any trends was investigated.
