Limit groups and subdirect products
by

Limit groups, or omega-residually free groups, have played a key role in recent work of Sela and of Kharlampovich and Myasnikov on the Tarskii problems and on the algebraic geometry of groups. These groups behave like free groups in many respects. I will focus in particular on one property of free groups: that subgroups of direct products satisfy homological finiteness conditions only in restricted cases, and discuss to what extent this extends to more general limit groups.
