The Sonneberg Plate Archive with its nearly 300,000 plates is going to be digitized in an inexpensive and fast way. With the help of four commercial flat-bed scanners that are used in parallel more than the half of the plates will be scanned by midth of 2005. The lecture gives an overview about the technical approach, related problems, data management and man power. It also scetches some very recent results in stellar astronomy on the basis of this data.
