Recent examples in fixed-point theory
by
Charles L. Hagopian
Sacramento State University

Let M be a curve with the fixed-point property. Recent examples show that (1) M ×[0, 1] may fail to have the fixed-point property (Sobolewski), (2) M ÈD may fail to have the fixed-point property when M is planar, D is a disk, and M ÇD is an arc (Hagopian and Prajs), and (3) the cone over M may fail to have the fixed-point property when M is a planar spiral limiting on a triod (Illanes). We will discuss these examples and several related unsolved problems.
