We show that it is consistent that whenever X is either a separable Banach space or Uryson's universal separable metric space, then X has a nowhere meager subset of size ℵ1 and any two such sets are almost isometric. It follows that the failure of CH is consistent with the existence of a universal separable metric space of size ℵ1 with respect to almost isometric embeddings.
