Positivity of simplicial volume of closed locally symmetric spaces of non-compact type, Part I

I will introduce locally symmetric spaces and simplicial volume. I'll discuss various applications of positivity of the simplicial volume (MinVol, minimal entropy, non-collapsing, etc). I'll finish by sketching out Thurston's proof that higher genus surfaces have positive simplicial volume.
