The Stone-Cech Compactification of Paracompact Spaces
by
James Keesling
University of Florida

The Stone-Cech compactification of locally compact Lindelöf spaces is complicated, but there are specialized techniques which allow its analysis. Recently these techniques have been extended to locally compact paracompact spaces. The resulting analysis is similar if there are no measurable cardinals. However, if there are measurable cardinals, then there may be a boundary in the difference set, bX \X, which requires separate analysis. In this talk we will give some details about this boundary. We will also give some typical theorems about the non-boundary portion of the difference set. Some results reported are joint with Yuli Rudyak. There are related results by Adam Przezdziecki which will be mentioned.
