Three reliability models are developed to study the effect of a spare unit on reliabiity and profit of a system. In model I, system has one unit whereas one more identical unit is provided to the system models II III in cold standy and parallel mode respectively. There is a single server who appears and disappears randomly from the system. The disribution of repair time is taken as general while the failure time distribution negative exponential . Some reliability and economic measures are obtained by using semi-Markov process and regenerative-point techinque. Graphs are plotted to compare the mean time to system failure (MTSF)and profit of the models for a particular case.

Keywords: Reliability Model, Spare unit, Profit, Regenerative point and Genral Distribution.
